An average temperature of 75 degrees F should be maintained
in the aquarium. During breeding season the temperature
should be about 10 degrees higher at 85 degrees F. This
temperature increase will assist your Jewel Cichlid in the
breeding process.
Gravel with a diameter of about 2 millimeters is perfect
for these Jewel Cichlid. This will allow
them to dig into it during the breeding season. If you use
gravel that is larger than this they may have problems due
to their relatively small size.

Jewel Chilids
are known to eat just about anything from flakes and pellets
to freeze-dried krill. One of their favorite foods is snails,
just be sure to feed them snails that are small enough for
them. |

Jewel Cichlid
are best put in an aquarium with species that are too large
for them to eat. As the males reach sexual maturity you will
find that they become increasingly territorial. During breeding
season when the males and females pair off, you will most
likely be left with a few unpaired fish. It is best to remove
these and place them in a seperate tank. The males which have
paried off will become increasingly aggressive towards the
non-breeding fish. |
