| The first sign of fin rot is when the fin
starts to become frayed or appear as if it is disintegrating.
Sometimes you will actually notice small holes in the fins
starting to form. In addition, the base of the fin where the
fin attaches to the body will usually become red and appear
very irritated.
The best way to help your fish if it is showing signs of
fin rot is to improve the water quality in its aquarium. Carefully
monitor any other fish that are housed in the same aquarium
for similar signs. If after trying to improve the water quality
you do not see results in the following days it will be necessary
to completely change the water. You will also need to disinfect
any items and gravel which you use in the aquarium. You may
also be able to find some sort of antibiotic from the pet
store that will help its rehabilitation.
