Dropsy is not a disease on its own but rather a symptom
of another disease. Dropsy is characterized as the bloating
of the fish and will make the scales on your fish appear
as if they are lifting up off the body.
Bacteria infections
are the most common reason for dropsy to occur in your fish.
The first step would be to review the water conditions and
ensure they are up to par. Also, take a look at the other
fish in the aquarium to see if they are exhibiting similar
symptoms. If all else fails you may wish to take your fish
to the veterinarian to have it checked out. This is especially
important if there are other fish in the tank as you do
not want them all to become ill.
If you cure the bacteria infection it is only a matter
of time before the dropsy condition will begin to subside.
If it does not after a period of a couple of weeks you may
have to take alternate action.
