Corn snakes
are popular pets as they are easy to handle and generally
have a good temperament.
Corn Snakes earned their name from the
pattern on their scales that closely resembles Maize. |

North America |

Up to 20 years |
| Estimated Size: |

Adult
Corn Snakes should be fed pre-killed rodents once every 10
- 14 days, while younger Corn Snakes should be fed weekly.
Like most snakes Corn Snakes will swim and bathe
in their water dish so it is important that their water dish
is large enough that they can be fully submerged. Because
the Corn Snake likes to bathe in the dish it is important
to change the water daily. |

A temperature
gradient of 70 degrees F to 80 degrees F is recommended for
your Corn Snake. It is important that the habitat is warm
enough or your Corn Snake may have trouble digesting its food.
Lighting should be provided in cycles of 12
hours (ie: 12 hours on, 12 hours off). A consistent cycle
like this will help reduce stress on your snake.
A relative humidity of 40% to 60% should be
maintained at all times in the enclosure. |

Corn
Snakes are known to be excellent escape artists. So, keep
this in mind when designing an enclosure for them. If you
provide your Corn Snake with a branch or shelf to climb on
it will do so as they are very good at climbing. Keep in mind
though that your Corn Snake may also use that branch or shelf
to assist in trying to escape. It can prop itself up against
the branch and push up against the lid of the cage.
Like other snakes a hid box should be available
for your Corn Snake to give it a place where it feels secure.
Cleaning should be done once per week. While
cleaning the enslosure it will be necessary to remove the
snake so that a thorough cleaning can be done. |
