Papova is short form for Papovavirus
or HaPV. Syrian and European hamsters seem to be affected by
it the most. The first symptoms that you would notice of Papova
are lumps on and around the neck of the hamster. From there
it will spread on to the head and face. At this point it will
start to spread quite rapidly inside the hamster. Internal bleeding
and an overall lose of energy is common.
Unfortunately at this point there is no known treatment for
Papova Virus and it is in fact fatal in most or all cases. There
is still no harm in taking your hamster to the veterinarian
because they will be able to confirm the diagnosis and give
you suggestions to reduce the pain that the hamster feels. |
