| Although not incredibly common hamsters can
obtian lung infections from a variety of sources. The most
common causes are allergies and colds, however it can be something
much more serious. Hamsters that have lung infections may
cough or sneeze repeatedly which can cause the infection to
worsen. If the lung infection is allowed to go on for long
periods of time without treatment it can be fatal to your
hamster. Lung infections are more common in hamsters who have
a weak immune system due to a history of infections, old age
or the presence of another health condition.
Common treatment for lung infections includes the use of
antibiotics. For this reason if you fear that your hamster
may have a lung infection it is important to take it to the
veternarian as soon as possible as they can properly diagnose
the condition and recommend the appropriate treatment.
