Some breeds of hamsters (in particular Syrian Hamsters)
have small spots on each of their hips. These are actually
scent glands. If you have a male Syrian Hamster it is much
more likely that you will notice these spots than if you
have a female hamster.
If you happen to have a breed of hamster that has these
spots on their hips you should check them periodically.
This is because infection in these areas is possible although
it does not occur very often. If your hamster does have
an infection here it is likely that their entire hip will
appear irritated. If this does happen to be the case you
will need to take your hamster to the veterinarian to have
the infection cleared up.
