Guinea pigs have a long and storied history. Guinea pigs are one of the earliest known animals to be kept as pets. There is evidence that as early as 2000 BC guinea pigs have been kept as pets. Guinea Pigs are widely available in pet stores which also helps to make them so popular.

A common comparison to the habitat of guinea pigs in the wild is that of cows. Guinea pigs tend to inhabit grassy plains as cows do. Guinea pigs heard together in groups and eat a variety of plant matter, grass in particular.
