The Skye Terrier has a relatively
long overcoat that can reach up to 6 inches in length. Any
longer than this is not considered proper for a Skye Terrier
that will be used in competitions.
Since the Skye Terrier has very short legs it is advisable
to ensure the dog only performs moderate activity in the first
few months of its life. If the Skye Terrier is overactive
it can have lifelong effects on their bone development. Even
jumping up and down from objects too early in their life can
cause similar problems. Once the Skye Terrier has reached
its first birthday these bone issues should no longer be a
problem.
