Although the Turkish Van is officially
classified as a longhaired cat its hair is not near as long
as many other breeds in this class. In Lake Van Turkey where
this cat originates they have very harsh winters. This has
forced the Turkish Van to grow a long coat during the winter
and shed it for a short coat during the summer to cope with
the drastic temperature changes.
The Turkish Van is known for being a very strong and powerful
cat. It has large muscles in its legs and knees that are adapted
for jumping high into the air. Their paws are also very large
which also assits in jumping.
